YAC – Housing Advice for young people

Housing Advice Drop In

Our drop in service at YAC offers support and advice to young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.  We can help young people look for accommodation in the private rented sector and negotiate with landlords, as well as help with benefits and referrals to specialist housing schemes.

We also run a Skillz for Life course where young people can learn practical skills for everyday living.

The drop-in is open Monday-Friday 9am-12pm. Visit us as 11 St Georges Place, Brighton BN1 4GB. Or call 01273 624432 or email housing.advice@ymcadlg.org.

Find us on Facebook and Twitter.

Family Support and Mediation

This is a preventative and supportive service aimed at reducing and preventing future homelessness amongst 14- 25 year olds.

The biggest cause of homelessness for vulnerable, young people is the breakdown of a key relationship at home. In the majority of cases everyday family disagreements lead to continued arguments which escalate and end in an impasse from which neither side is able, or willing to see a return.

We are able to give families support as well as provide a mediation service, we can arrange for this support to be over the telephone, home visiting, meeting at school or other location with a young person or meeting here in our offices in central Brighton – YAC, 11 St Georges Place, Brighton BN1 4GB.

Referrals can be received from any source including self-referrals from young people/their families or carers/professionals via telephone or referral form. Click here for a referral form.

Please feel free call the mainline number 01273 624432 and ask to speak to Helen Tonks or Mary Carmichael for 14-17 year olds and speak to Emma Brandenburger for 18-25 year olds.

Alternatively you can contact the family support mediators by their e mail:
