Press Statement from YMCA DownsLink Group: St Patricks

St Patricks is a 29-bed adult hostel for homeless people in Hove, which has been run on behalf of Brighton and Hove City Council, by YMCA DownsLink Group since 2019. YMCA DownsLink Group has made the strategic decision, not to retender to run the adult hostel beyond its contract end date of March 2024, focusing service delivery on its missional client group of children and young people aged 16-25.

Brighton & Hove City Council have not been able to retain the building to continue running the service beyond March 2024.  It has decided not to recommission the service and St Patrick’s will close on 31 March 2024. Residents and staff were informed of the decision in late 2023 and are being supported through the process.

There are currently 23 residents in the project and YMCA DownsLink Group is working closely with Brighton and Hove City Council, alongside other partners, working with residents to secure suitable, alternative accommodation, that meets their needs, in advance of the project closing. The accommodation considered for each resident to move on to will be individual to their needs looking at alternative supported accommodation within the city as well as more independent options.

YMCA enables people to develop their full potential in mind, body and spirit. Inspired by and faithful to our Christian values, we create supportive, inclusive and energising communities, where young people can truly belong, contribute and thrive.
