YMCA Guildford Foyer are recruiting a Project (Support) Worker to work alongside our wider housing team to provide effective day to day management of our Diversity Award winning supported accommodation project for vulnerable young people aged 16-25 years. We are privileged to work with young people from Guildford and Surrey and those seeking asylum.

The role includes delivering one to one sessions and ‘More than a Room’ group sessions, YMCA DLG’s support offer that gives young people a range of accessible activities to assist residents to develop personally and socially in order that they grow in confidence and move towards independence.

You will carry a caseload of young people and work to engage them in effective support planning, working towards tailored goals so they can work towards positive outcomes.

You must have experience working with young people, particularly those considered vulnerable or with multiple and complex needs and be able to de-escalate volatile situations and to manage challenging behaviour appropriately.

You should have the ability to engage, motivate, inspire and empower young people; particularly working within a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) or Trauma Informed approach.

The role will include supporting with the day-to-day running of the service and engaging the young people who live within the project and supporting them to develop socially, personally and emotionally in order that they may grow in confidence and independence.

Part of the role will include lone working and will require someone competent and confident when working alone, and somebody who is able to deal with challenging behaviour appropriately. Experience working with a similar client group and an understanding of the needs and challenges posed by these young people is essential.
