Three of our Guildford residents aged between 17 and 21 have been trained to become local IT peer educators thanks to funding through the national charity UK Youth. George, Connor and Phil had all previously attended Princes Trust Teams run by YMCA Guildford, and have now signed up as volunteer IT Champions to run our Microsoft Youth Hub – a dedicated space with a range of new computer packages and software.
Together with YMCA DLG Engagement & Coordinator Patrick Mudavanhu, the trio spent a day with UK Youth Project Officer Gary Brunskill to learn how to recruit and train young people to develop their digital and computer science skills over the next six months. The new peer educators aim to work with our supported housing residents as well as other groups of young people from the local area.
