We’re pleased to share some good news – the Youth Advice Centre (YAC) Brighton is moving to a new, more accessible space in the heart of the city at Jubilee Library.

This move is a key step in our strategy to increase our reach, ensuring that more young people across Brighton and Hove can access the advice, support and safe space they need, when they need it. The Youth Advice Centre will also continue running the Food Market, helping young people access affordable healthy food and essentials.

Continuing support, expanding our reach

The Youth Advice Centre is not closing, and all support services will continue – with the service closed for just one day on Friday 19 June. Young people can continue to access support in the same ways, and appointments will go ahead as planned unless we contact young people directly.

The move to Jubilee Library

The move will take place in two phases to ensure continuity of support while we create an improved, purpose-built space for young people.

Phase one (19–22 June):

  • 18 June: Last drop-in session 2pm-6pm at 11 St George’s Place
  • 19 June: Service closed
  • 22 June: Drop-in sessions and Food Market begin at Jubilee Library (temporary space)
  • 29 June: Appointments begin at Jubilee Library (temporary rooms)

Phase two (From late August):

  • The Youth Advice Centre moves into its new purpose-built centre on the ground floor of Jubilee Library.
  • By the end of the summer holidays, and in time for the start of the new term, all the Youth Advice Centre services will be brought together on the ground floor of the library, alongside the youth library space and Café Domenica.

Supporting more young people, in more ways

Relocating to Jubilee Library places the Youth Advice Centre in one of Brighton and Hove’s most well-used and inclusive public spaces – helping us connect with young people who may not have accessed support before.

Alongside this, our service is now part of the Young Futures Hub in Brighton & Hove, so our team will also be reaching further into communities to connect with under 18s who are less likely to access city centre services.

This reflects our commitment to meeting young people where they are, removing barriers to access and creating spaces where young people feel comfortable seeking support.

A shared community space

Jubilee Library is a trusted and well-used hub for young people – a place where many already come to study, socialise and access resources. By bringing YAC into this space, we are strengthening the support offer available to young people in the city and creating more opportunities for early help and intervention.

A positive step forward

“I am beyond excited to see our Youth Advice Centre co-locate within Jubilee Library. This move will strengthen YAC’s foundations whilst at the same time introduce us to new young people who currently use the hub in the centre of Brighton.

Plus, a huge win for us and our visitors in that the building is modern and accessible, something we couldn’t quite say for our previous space. There aren’t many places left where young people, especially those aged 19–25, can just ‘be’ for free, but Jubilee really does provide this for so many young people in the city, and we’re excited about introducing our offer to them.

In other exciting news, we are now part of the Young Futures Hub in Brighton & Hove, meaning that our team will be reaching out further into communities to meet under 19s who aren’t able to access city centre services.”

Thomas Palser, Head of Youth Advice & Support, YMCA DownsLink Group.

“We’re delighted to be welcoming the Youth Advice Centre into Jubilee Library, one of England’s busiest public libraries and a vital community space at the heart of the city.

“This move will enable the Youth Advice Centre to continue supporting 13 to 25-year-olds in Brighton & Hove in a more accessible and central location that is already well-used by many of our young people.”

Councillor Emma Daniel, Brighton & Hove City Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Youth Services.

What this means for partners

For professionals and partner organisations, referrals should continue as normal. Contact details and routes into the service remain unchanged, and partners can continue to signpost young people to YAC with confidence.
