YMCA Dialogue

Everything you need to know as a young person looking for support

Ever feel like you've got a lot on your mind and need someone to talk to? That's where Dialogue comes in. We're a counselling service here to support young people just like you in Surrey and Sussex.

Counselling is like having a conversation with someone who's there to listen and help you figure things out. It's a confidential, safe space where you can talk about your feelings, problems, or anything that's bothering you without being judged. However, if your counsellor thinks either you or someone else is at risk or harm, they will need to tell another adult – in our services or in the school. This is to support you and help you to get any other support you may need.

Counselling can help all sorts of people, including:

  • Anyone feeling stressed, sad, or worried
  • Those having trouble at school or with friends
  • People dealing with family issues
  • Anyone who's experienced something upsetting
  • Those who just want to understand themselves better

At Dialogue, our counsellors are specially trained to work with young people. They're here to support you through whatever you're going through. Remember, asking for help isn't a sign of weakness – it's actually really brave! Sometimes we all need a little extra support, and that's okay.

How to access dialogue counselling

Sometimes life can feel tough, and it's okay if you're feeling worried, sad, or confused. At Dialogue, we're here to listen and help. Our counsellors are kind people who can talk with you about anything that's on your mind. In primary schools we need parent/carer consent. In secondary schools, we do not ask for parent/carer consent – so you can reach out to someone in the school to help them to get in touch with the school counselling service. Remember, it's brave to ask for help when you need it, and we're here when you're ready.
