We are pleased to today launch our 118 Challenge to raise awareness and funds to support young people in Sussex and Surrey who are facing homelessness. The challenge highlights the staggering statistic that 118,134 young people across the UK presented themselves as homeless or at risk of homelessness last year.

We are inviting businesses, community groups and individuals to take on their own fundraising challenge that focuses on the number 118. Ideas for inspiration include:

  • run/cycle walk 118km over a month
  • walk 118 steps in a week
  • swim 118 lengths of a pool
  • do an 11-hour, 8-minute danceathon, walk or other activity.

And challenges don’t need to be based around a physical activity. Other ideas include hosting a bake sale with a suggested donation of £1.18 per cake, organising a dinner party and asking for £11.80 donations or holding a raffle and selling tickets for £1.18.

Head of Fundraising and Communications Debbie Watkins said: “We’re hoping that businesses, community groups and individuals will be creative with how they choose to raise funds as part of our 118 Challenge this summer. It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring work teams or groups together, have a lot of fun and make a real difference to young people across Sussex and Surrey.”
