Guildford foyer residents and staff were recently invited to a special evening at the Yvonne Arnaud theatre in the town, to celebrate its 60th birthday and recent refurbishment.
The gala brought together community members, professional performers and the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, who unveiled a commemorative plaque and cut a giant birthday cake which was shared with guests.
Six of our young residents were able to attend the event thanks to our Support Coach Jessica Griffiss, who performed on stage as part of the Shakespeare ensemble. Jessica has built a strong partnership with the theatre over the past four years, securing job opportunities, workshops and tickets to shows and pantomimes for our young people.
Support worker Luiz Lopez, who accompanied the group, shared how excited he and the residents were to see Prince Edward and to watch Jessica perform. The show featured a medley of music, pantomime and theatrical highlights from the theatre’s 60-year history.
One resident said: “I really enjoyed recognising some songs that were sung. It was great seeing the actors from pantomime again. I am really happy that I was able to go.”
We’re incredibly grateful to Jessica and the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre for continuing to open doors for our young people and helping them feel part of something special.
