We are pleased to announce the appointment of Trevor Beattie MBE as its new Chair.
Trevor will formally take up the role in January 2027 following a planned handover period with current Chair Fran Beckett.
Trevor served as the first permanent Chief Executive of the South Downs National Park Authority for 12 years before retiring from the role in January 2024. During his career he has held a number of senior leadership, governance and trustee roles and brings extensive experience of strategic leadership, partnership working and organisational development.
Inspired by YMCA DownsLink Group’s ambitious 2026-31 strategy and its commitment to supporting young people facing some of society’s most pressing challenges, Trevor applied for the role earlier this year.
He said:
I am very pleased to be taking up the role of Chair of YMCA DownsLink in January, supporting the great team of Trustees, staff and volunteers in delivering the ambitious new strategy which addresses one of the most urgent challenges facing our nation – the accommodation, safety and wellbeing of young people.
Reflecting on the organisation’s work, Trevor highlighted the breadth of support provided to young people, including accommodation, mental health and wellbeing services, and trusted advice. He also emphasised the importance of helping young people overcome challenges, build confidence and resilience, and create more positive futures for themselves.
Our CEO, Emily Brock, said:
We are delighted that Trevor will be joining us as our new Chair. Throughout the recruitment process he demonstrated a strong understanding of both the opportunities and challenges facing the organisation, alongside a clear commitment to the young people and communities we serve.
His strategic leadership experience, thoughtful approach and shared commitment to our values make him an excellent fit for YMCA DownsLink Group and we look forward to working with him.
A more in-depth interview with Trevor will be published in January when he formally begins his tenure as Chair.
