Our commitment to equity, respect and belonging
At YMCA DownsLink Group, we want every child, young person, colleague, volunteer and trustee to feel valued, respected and able to be themselves.
We are committed to creating a culture where everyone belongs. We celebrate the diversity of our communities and recognise that people bring different identities, experiences, strengths and perspectives. We also recognise that some people face barriers, marginalisation or discrimination, and we are committed to challenging inequality and creating equitable opportunities for all.
Equity starts with listening to young people
Listening to and learning from children and young people is central to who we are. We believe that children and young people are experts in their own lives, and their voices are key to shaping our organisation. We take action to ensure their experiences and aspirations help shape our services, influence decisions and guide our future direction.
We know that inclusive services start with an inclusive workplace. We want this to be a place where colleagues feel safe, supported and empowered to contribute, develop and thrive. We are committed to fostering a culture of respect, fairness and psychological safety.
This commitment belongs to all of us, from our Board of Trustees and leadership team through to every colleague and volunteer. We know our work is ongoing. By listening, learning and taking action, we will continue to build an organisation where every child and young person can be who they want to be, and where colleagues can thrive, contribute and reach their potential.
