YMCA Artists Open House

We are pleased to announce that our Artists Open House is back for a third year running at our Head Office – Reed House in Hove.

This year, the annual event in Brighton & Hove has the key theme of “Homelessness, Recovery and Outsider Art”, with over 1000 artists displaying work in over 200 venues across the city and neighbouring areas.

Our YMCA Artist Open House is hosting even more art than previous years, with over 30 artists and makers taking part, with something on offer to suit all budgets and tastes. There’s everything from postcards to paintings, through to jewellery, sculpture, photography, collage, prints, poetry and more; all set in the stunning Georgian surroundings of Reed House. Artists include the finalists and winners of the recent YMCA DLG photography competition which asked young people accessing our services to capture what Identity means to them.

All artists taking part are donating 30% of sales to YMCA DLG to support our work with young people and many have donated work for a raffle that will be drawn as part of the Finale event held on the last Bank Holiday Monday in May.

We also have wonderful cakes being donated and delivered though the month, courtesy of Cloud 9, Rendezvous Tea House, Cat Pratt, Halimah Yunus and Honeycomb Cakes.

We are also members of the long established “Hove Arts” trail, which over the years has seen members win the award of Best Open House and many more shortlisted, making it definitely a trail to enjoy. Hove Arts also issue the “Hove Trotters” passport to younger art lovers, which encourages children, visiting with parents, to find facts about art in each venue through a series of questions and rewarding with them stickers. Collect enough stickers and there’s a free Hot Chocolate and gift voucher at The Book Nook children’s book shop in Hove.

YMCA DLG Artist Open House at Reed House is open to all, from 11am – 6pm each weekend and Bank Holiday Monday from Saturday 5 May until Monday 28 May. If you’re able to pop in for a look round, meet the artists, enjoy the art and a slice of cake, we’d love to see you – you might even find something you have to have! Or if you simply like what you see, please don’t forget to vote for us as Best Artist Open House on the Artist Open Houses website.
