Job Title: Gardening Volunteers
Location: Brighton & Hove, East Sussex
Hours: Commitment of 1-2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months

About the Position
Are you green fingered? Do have a passion for nature and for engaging young people?
We are looking for volunteers with a passion for gardening to tend to the house garden in Brighton & Hove Supported Housing projects for vulnerable young people. The role involves carrying out simple projects, such as create an herb garden, potting plants, clearing weeds and to encourage young people who are residents to get involved with caring for and using the garden. Volunteers will be in pairs and ideally able to commit to 1-2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.
Responsibilities
To be supported and supervised by the Volunteer Coordinator and support staff on duty.
To attend all required training and Volunteer team meetings.
To keep in regular communication with the Volunteer Coordinator and inform them of any issues, absence and lateness.
Attend regular supervision sessions with the Volunteer Coordinator.
To follow the YMCA’s procedures and policies as required.

To adhere to YMCA DLG Covid-19 policies and procedures which are put in place for the safety of yourself, the young people and the staff you will be working alongside.
Who you are
All sorts of people become Engagement Volunteers. You do not need to have specific formal qualifications, but you will need a working knowledge of Gardening and Safe gardening practice. Patience, resilience, empathy and tolerance and a good sense of humour! You will also need to be able to relate well to young people and enjoy spending time in their company.
You will be aged 18 and above, have an interest and working knowledge of gardening that you would like to share with young people, as a one-off session, or regular sessions for an agreed length of time.
Have a willingness to support activities delivered by other volunteers, such as taking young people on trips or to work-shops.
Mature attitude, reliable and at a stable point in life
Willingness to volunteer under the supervision of YMCA DLG Support Staff and the Volunteer Coordinator and follow the YMCA DownsLink Group policies and procedures.
