Location: Worthing, West Sussex

Hours: Minimum commitment 2 hours per week

Closing date: 30th November 2021

About the Position

Are you green fingered? Do have a passion for nature and for engaging young people?

We are looking for volunteers with a passion for gardening to tend to the house garden in Worthing Supported Housing projects for vulnerable young people. The role involves carrying out simple projects, such as create an herb garden, potting plants, clearing weeds and to encourage young people who are residents to get involved with caring for and using the garden. Volunteers will be in pairs and ideally able to commit to 2.5 hours per week, days to be decided. As well as patience, resilience, empathy and tolerance, a sense of humor is essential!

YMCA DownsLink Group runs Worthing Foyer, an affordable, high-quality accommodation option for young people in housing need aged 16-25 years. Our aim is to provide a safe, supportive and enabling environment in which young people can be helped to reach their full potential. We provide training and support with an overall goal of helping those young people reach independence.

All sorts of people become Engagement Volunteers. You do not need to have specific formal qualifications, but you will need a decent working knowledge of gardening and safe gardening practice.

You will be aged 18 and above, have an interest and working knowledge of gardening that you would like to share with young people, as a one-off session, or regular sessions for an agreed length of time.

Please note that we will be reviewing applications regularly and the role will close once we have reached our capacity for volunteers.
