Engagement Volunteers

Job Title: Engagement Volunteers

Location: Brighton & Hove, Worthing and Eastbourne

Hours: Minimum commitment 2 hours per week

Closing date: 30th November 2021

About the Position

Help young people achieve their full potential by supporting them to gain skills for life, learning and employment.

We are looking for volunteers to engage young people, aged 16-25 years in our Supported Housing units, to participate in group activity sessions and events which have been planned with the Volunteer Coordinator. Volunteers will  plan, prepare and deliver timetabled activity sessions for small groups of young people in our supported housing projects. At YMCA DownsLink Group our work is targeted towards young lives on the fringes of our society with the aim of helping them to belong, contribute and thrive.

YMCA DownsLink Group is a charity that has been serving local communities since 1855. Each year we support over 15,000 children, young people and families across Sussex and Surrey. Children, young people and families are at the heart of YMCA DownsLink Group with a particular focus on the needs of young people who find themselves on the fringes of society and need support. The work of the YMCA DLG overall covers a wide range of areas including accommodation, general advice, sexual exploitation, mental health, housing advice, youth clubs, childcare, counselling, mentoring, alternative education and apprenticeships.

All sorts of people become Engagement Volunteers. You do not need to have specific formal qualifications, but you will need patience, resilience, empathy and tolerance and a good sense of humour!  You will also need to be able to relate well to young people and enjoy spending time in their company.

You will be aged 18 and above, have an interest or skill you would like to share with young people, as a one-off session, or regular sessions for an agreed length of time.

Please note that we will be reviewing applications regularly and the role will close once we have reached our capacity for volunteers.
